A scholarship fund has been established in memory of the late Sgt. Mark Hunter, a veteran Salisbury police officer who died in April.

Organizers said in a news release that Hunter, who was 51, had a “passion for children, their well being, and educational success,” and it will be the mission of the scholarship fund to continue his legacy.

The fund will provide educational assistance for college and to promote social enrichment activities, the news release said.

Contributions to the Mark A. Hunter Scholarship Fund can be made at any local Suntrust Bank branch. They are at 507 W. Innes St., 105 Avalon Drive, and 2070 Statesville Blvd.
