The owners of the Holiday Inn on Jake Alexander Boulevard say they’re dropping the franchise and renaming it Hotel Salisbury & Conference Center.
The change takes effect June 22, according to a news release.
The Wallace family of Salisbury owns the hotel. They’ve been in the hospitality industry since 1958 and plan to continue hotel operations out of the same building with the same amenities, facilities, and services, the news release said.
Leo Wallace Jr. built the original Holiday Inn on Interstate 85 with his brother, Charles Wallace. In 1988, the new Holiday Inn went up and it won the “Torchbearer Award” for being one of the top hotels of Holiday Inn Worldwide. In 2005, Wallace was awarded the Holiday Inn International’s Spirit of Giving Award.
“We have chosen to take the opportunity to release our Holiday Inn franchise so that we can run a local, independent hotel in Salisbury,” Suzanne Wallace Casey, one of the hotel owners, said in the news release. “Our customers will enjoy the same great service and quality hotel as always, and as an independent hotel we will be able to offer extra incentives to our guests such as more competitive rates and more flexibility when it comes to the use of our facility and conference center services.”
The existing conference center associated with the hotel will continue to host special events such as reunions and receptions, corporate meetings and other functions. Conference and meeting rooms as well as a ballroom can accommodate parties and groups of all sizes, included groups of up to 600 guests.
Meetings and events at the hotel will continue as they have in the past, and Hotel Salisbury & Conference Center will continue to host guests including corporate guests or others seeking the use of the conference center, the news release said.
Hotel Salisbury & Conference Center is at 530 Jake Alexander Blvd. S. A website for the renamed hotel at www.hotelsalisburync.com was not fully functional Friday, featuring only the new logo and driving directions.
