Community Care Clinic provides vital services

I’m a second-career paralegal student without access to health insurance. I am writing to discuss the care that has been afforded me by the Rowan County Community Care Clinic, located at 315G Mocksville Ave. The clinic provides many patients such as myself with much-needed medical, dental and pharmacy services. Many patients work two to three jobs to make ends meet but aren’t able to pay for doctor’s visits or medication.

The clinic operates only through community support and grants. It does not receive state or federal funding. The action of the Community Care Clinic has inspired me to sing its praises and ask others to support the efforts of its volunteers and staff. Without this clinic, my blood sugar level would still be at a dangerously high level of 425; I would still suffer from colitis and face high medical costs that I couldn’t afford.

I’ve worked more than 30 years as a professional, so I was never faced with the difficulties that come with having no insurance and no income or other challenges until the past two years; this is when God blessed me with the services of Community Care Clinic. Therefore, I feel compelled to write about their goodness and encourage readers to support them.

As 1 Thessalonians 5:11 states: Encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. We will pass through life but once, if therefore, there be any kindness you can show, or any good thing you can do to anyone, do it now, do not accede or abandon your duties, because you may not have this chance again.

Currently, the clinic has a fundraising effort, called the Guardian Angel. The clinic does this each year at Christmas, and it’s an excellent way to honor a loved one. Why peace eludes us

World peace would be the most precious thing if this could ever be accomplished. With each passing century, peace has been most illusive. War and rumors of war unfortunately have been the reality. Ask yourself, why is this so? Think back on the history of the world, where war on earth has been the rule rather than the exception. Why is there so much death, destruction and war?

Most people of the world prefer peace over war — how can war then be so certain? Greed, dishonesty and the need for some men to think, say and do what is wrong. Men who intentionally lie to have their own way; they fool the people with great oratory and promises but have absolutely no intention of delivering. These people stay in power because of people who support them and accept the greed, dishonesty and the lies. They are equally guilty for supporting men who intend to have things their way no matter whom they hurt. People that support this dishonesty are best described as useful idiots.

Some of the useful idiots vote for the same people over and over again, even though their lives never improve. Some UIs are willing to kill themselves and anyone around them to achieve the power (in the name of religion) for these power-hungry men. You can see this same dishonesty sometimes in the workplace, where the uncaring boss will push people around to achieve his own dishonest interest.

There will be no peace in the world until people refuse to be a part of the greed, the dishonesty, and the lies. Otherwise how can you expect anything to change? The world will continue as it has with war and rumors of war. It is never too late to ask: Are you now or have you ever been a UI? We can change, we better change.

Thankful for help

Regarding the Nov. 28 article about the theft of James Shepherd’s car as he undergoes treatment for cancer:

We would like to thank the people who have reached out to help us. This has been the hardest week. Along with dealing with cancer, now we cannot visit our grandchild when we want to. We hope whoever has our car really enjoys it.

There are so many great people out there, like those who sent funds and those who loaned us a vehicle. We are truly thankful.
