A woman was severely injured after being pinned in her vehicle when she crashed early Friday morning in the 200 block of Moon River Road.
Trooper Eric Perdue of the Highway Patrol said Sharon Ann Wrisley, 56, lived just a couple hundred yards from the crash on Timberlake Court near the Yadkin River.
He said Wrisley wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when she ran off the road to the right and overcorrected, hitting a tree on the left side of the road.
She was thrown into the floorboard and pinned under the dashboard of the 1991 Dodge passenger vehicle.
A medical helicopter was called in for the accident just after midnight.
Rescue crews decided to go to take Wrisley to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center first as a precaution before attempting to fly her out.
The hospital’s landing pad wasn’t clear for use, so a landing zone was set up in a parking lot on the Mocksville Avenue side.
But a Carolinas HealthCare System MedCenter Air flight that was planning to land there reported being low on fuel and had to abort.
Wrisley was later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical center by ambulance. A nursing supervisor said she was listed in critical condition early this morning.
Perdue said until he can talk to Wrisley or a family member, he won’t know if it was a medical condition or animal or some other reason that led to the crash.
