Fire guts apartments in Granite Quarry

GRANITE QUARRY — Fire has gutted two apartments at a South Main Street complex and forced several residents out of their homes.

There were no injuries in the fire at Granite Terrace apartments, property manager Nate Chambers said.

Firefighters arrived to find flames visible from one of the apartments in a five-unit building at the complex. The flames spread to two more units, Chambers said, destroying the interiors of two and heavily damaging a third. Two more were smoke-damaged.

A resident told a Post reporter that tenants in the building — one of several at the complex — helped make sure everyone got out and that they got their pets out of harm’s way.

Firefighters have the incident under control but are still on the scene checking for hot spots. Check Thursday’s Salisbury Post and www.salisburypost.com for more details.
