CHARLOTTE (AP) — They are building more parking spaces at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
But while they build, there are fewer parking spaces available.
The Charlotte Observer reported That the work means there are 3,500 fewer parking spaces this summer.
The airport has torn down two short-term parking decks in front of the terminal to make way for a new hourly parking deck scheduled to open in November 2014.
The $120 million, seven-story project add about 7,500 spaces. It also will hold the airport’s rental car facility.
The addition will mean the airport will have nearly 29,000 spaces.
City aviation director Jerry Orr says travelers are being pushed to parking lots farther from the terminal. The airport has added nine more shuttle buses. Sixty-four buses are now in use to shuttle passengers.
