FAITH — The town of Faith is preparing to go to trial in a lawsuit against two households for overdue water and sewer fees.
Pre-trial motions will be heard Feb. 25, and a jury trial is scheduled for March 18, according to an update given Tuesday to the Town Board of Aldermen.
Attorney John Hudson said these kinds of cases typically don’t make it to court, because they are often settled beforehand.
“I’ve never heard of anything like this going on before,” Hudson said. “It’s very unusual.”
The town has filed suit against Mr. Robbie Julian and Mr. and Mrs. Tim Free to collect unpaid bills of roughly $2,000 each.
“If there’s a judgment, it does affect your credit, does it not?” said Alderman Bill Johnson. “That’s where we’ve had results, because they want to get it settled.”
Hudson said a judgment would have an impact on the residents’ credit, but out-of-court negotiations over the past few months have not been successful.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, aldermen authorized the purchase of two new fire hydrants for $6,532.
Fire Chief Scott Gardner said his priority for the first fire hydrant would be to install it at the corner of Legion and Gantt streets.
The second could be installed at the corner of Main and Church streets, Gardner said, though that hasn’t been finalized yet. Money for installation is not included in the quoted price, so the town may have to store that fire hydrant until the funding is included in next year’s budget.
