CHINA GROVE — Michael Hanzlik was installed as president of the China Grove Rotary Club during the club’s weekly meeting June 18.
District Governor Luther T. Moore of Charlotte presided over the event.
Jenny White, outgoing president, was honored with a crystal recognizing her contribution to The Rotary Foundation as a Bequest Society Member. Jenny will be leaving the club due to her move to Hickory as principal of Hickory Southwest Elementary School. She recently served as principal of China Grove Elementary School.
Hanzlik, senior financial advisor for the China Grove office of Edward Jones, has been an active Rotarian since 2005 and will lead the club, which was chartered in 1936.
A native of Concord, he is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, married and the father of two daughters.
Additionally he serves on the Council of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in China Grove.
Salisbury Woman’s Club
The Salisbury Woman’s Club held its June meeting at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center to commemorate its 25th anniversary.
Steve Simpson gave members a tour of the facility.
Chaplain Ann Bingham presented a brief history of the United States flag and its importance in our lives.
President Angelia Bates presided at a brief business session where members plan to take cookies to Hospice House during summer months and beyond. Members brought items for Battered Women’s Shelter.
Hostesses Barbara Lloyd and Angelia Bates decorated the picnic tables with red checked table cloths and red geraniums. Trinity Oaks catered the special picnic lunch.
The club will reconvene in September at the Club House.
Downsizing with Dignity Seminar
KANNAPOLIS — Comfort Keepers at Whitley’s Annex Chapel, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., will have a complimentary lunch at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Lori Fike, senior relocation specialist, will offer tips and ideas for downsizing.
Comfort Keepers offers the Downsizing with Dignity Seminar to teach senior citizens ways to safely modify homes, assisted living areas, ways to move in smaller homes while safely accommodating wheelchairs, bathing safely and other tips.

Piano students show off talents in local recital
Piano students of Tina Brown of Rockwell presented a recital June 6 in the fellowship hall of Organ Lutheran Church.
Students who performed include: Shirley Guo. Elisabeth Swinson, Baleigh Trexler, Daniel Pell, Sydney Feriante, Dave Guo, Beau Hinson, Jordan Wise, Shaun Pell Gabi Jolly, Kevin Agner, Ilya Wang, Laura Agner and Rebecca Agner,
The recital concluded with the two following senior piano students performing.
Cinnamon Moore, daughter of Mike and Kristen Moore of Salisbury, is a graduate of South Rowan High School.
She played “The Autumn Sky” by Timothy Brown, “Blues a la Mode” by Robert Vandall and “Club Jazz” a duet by Randall Faber.
As her senior project, Cinnamon decided to learn how to play the piano. She began her lessons in December of her junior year.
This fall, Cinnamon will attend UNC- Chapel Hill and pursue a degree in environmental science.
Marian Hough, daughter of Boyd and Karen Hough of China Grove, is a graduate of Jesse Carson High School.
She played “Moon River” by Henry Mancini and arranged by Philip Keveren, “River Flows in You” by Yiruma, and “Ovation No. 3” by Robert Vandall.
During her 10 years of studying piano with Brown, Marian has participated in the National Piano Guild Auditions and the North Carolina Music Teachers Association Piano Contest.
Marian will be attending Western Carolina University in the fall for a double major in history and social sciences. She plans to be a high school history teacher.
Recognition was given to the following students who participated in the N.C. Music Teachers Association Albemarle District piano contest and festival at Pfeiffer University in March: Kevin Agner, Laura Agner, and Marian Hough.
Kevin Agner and Laura Agner who made Superior in the Junior B and Senior A Level, respectively, played at the West Division State Piano Contest at Queens University in April.
Descendents of Ernest E. and Agatha Eller Miller held their 46th family reunion at Dan Nicholas Park on June 15.
A covered dish was held for 17 family members and one guest. The out-of-town guest was Tracy Bishop from Spartanburg SC.
Also in attendance was the one surviving child Zeta Miller Smith. The other two surviving children were not able to attend this year. They are Ernest E. Miller of Cary James J. Miller of Locus Grove, Va.
The deceased children are Amy R. Miller, Olivia Miller File, Coy R. Miller, Rena Miller Morris, Edgar A. Miller and Pauline Miller Leazer.
President of the reunion committee, Don Smith of Huntersville, recognized the following family members with a gift:

Youngest member present — Emma Joy Shores, 3 years old from Morganton, daughter of Jonathan & Angela Shores and great-granddaughter of Zeta Miller Smith.
Traveled Farthest – Luann Earnhardt Bryant, 127 miles from Spartanburg, SC.
Family with most members present — Zeta Miller Smith family with 7 members present.
New member added to the Miller family since last year’s reunion was Joshua Caleb Coley, born August 2012 in Spartanburg SC. He is the son of Scott and Sabrina Earnhardt Coley, grandson of Claude and Ann Earnhardt and great-grandson of Lee and Olivia Miller File.
The annual Euart reunion was held on June 9 at Rockwell United Methodist Church, Rockwell.
The covered dish meal began at 1 pm with announcements and prayer by President Rick Yost.
There were 52 family and friends present. Carl Euart was the oldest in attendance and Jaxson Page was the youngest.
Traveling the farthest distance was Randy and Debbie Lomax and Casey of South Carolina.
Married the longest at 63 years was Carl and Zula Euart.
Flowers were presented by family members in memory of those who have passed: Carolyn Euart Morgan, Bill and Louise Yost, Howard Lomax, Calvin Ewart, Charles and Sue Webb.
The next reunion will be held June 8, 2014 at the church.
