SALISBURY — The Okey Dokey is now okey dokey.
The general store in downtown Salisbury has complied with city code and state fire code, and a daily fine has stopped accruing at $23,950, the city’s top code enforcement officer said.
Code Services Division Manager Chris Branham said he met Thursday morning with owner Stan Williamson and inspected the property at 126 E. Innes St.  
“He has moved everything off of the property lines at least three feet and on one side, the property line is completely cleaned off,” Branham said.
Williamson also cleared several buckets of debris from the area, Branham said.
The large fine will be billed to the property owner, and no further abatement action is necessary, Branham said.
City Council on Tuesday declared the area behind the Okey Dokey a public nuisance.
Okey Dokey was cited 18 times since June 2010 by Branham and the Salisbury Fire Department for conditions that presented a public health danger and downtown fire hazard.
Williamson told the Post on Wednesday he had not been aware of the accumulating fine and could not afford to pay it. Last year, the city fined the business $19,000 for sign ordinance violations but eventually lowered the penalty to $150 after Williamson removed signs from his storefront.
Now labeled a chronic violator, Okey Dokey will have business 15 days to comply with city nuisance code if found in violation again.
The back of Okey Dokey, where large piles of debris and materials have caused complaints for years, can be seen from the city’s newly renovated public parking lot, as well as by several other businesses that share an alley.
