Update: A severe storm warning for Rowan County is in effect until 5:15 p.m.
The National Weather Service says radar indicates a line of storms approaching from Davie County is capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds of more than 60 miles an hour. The storms are moving east at 35 miles an hour.

RALEIGH (AP) — Weather forecasters say strong thunderstorms are possible in much of North Carolina.
The National Weather Service says storms are possible Thursday afternoon and into Thursday night across the state. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Rowan County until 8 p.m.
Local weather radar shows a line of storms approaching.
Forecasters say the main danger will be winds of 60 mph or more. Large hail is also possible.
The storms are mostly likely in the midafternoon in the Piedmont and the late afternoon and early evening elsewhere in central North Carolina.
The weather service says the recent heavy rains from Tropical Storm Andrea means it may be easier for trees to be knocked over in Thursday’s storms.
Thunderstorms also are likely in the mountains of western North Carolina.
Heat advisories have been issued for much of the coast.
