RALEIGH (AP) — The North Carolina Chapter of the NAACP is readying for another week of protests that have led to the arrest of nearly 400 people since late April.

Chapter president the Rev. William Barber says the seventh week of “Moral Monday” demonstrations at the state Legislature will focus on the environment, health care and the budget bills passed by both chambers of the General Assembly.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and its supporters are outraged over the economic, education, voting and social policies of the Republican-controlled legislature. More than 80 people were arrested last week in demonstrations led by clergy.

Republican leaders have dismissed the protests and promise to press on with an agenda that won them supermajorities in the 2012 election.
