Business roundup: Fisher adds chief executive officer title at F&M Bank

J. Steven Fisher has been promoted to chief executive officer of F&M Bank effective June 1. He will continue to hold the title of president. Paul E. Fisher will remain in the role of chairman and CEO of F&M Financial Corp.

“This promotion recognizes the fact that Steven has gradually assumed greater responsibility and authority over the last few years while serving as Chief Operating Officer and President of the bank,” said Paul Fisher. “Steven has chaired the Bank Management Committee, led the strategic planning process, managed the bank’s strategic initiatives and has successfully guided the bank during challenging economic times.”

Starting with the leadership of J.E. Fisher, Sr. and followed by Paul E. Fisher, Steven continues the legacy in the Fisher family as the third generation at F&M Bank.

Steven has been a member of the F&M Financial Corp. and subsidiary boards for 18 years and has been an employee of F&M Bank for 16 years. He holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from UNC-Chapel Hill and both a master of business and juris doctor degree from Wake Forest University.

Before joining F&M, Steven worked with Bank of America as a corporate management intern and was an attorney with the law firm of Dennis, Corry, Porter and Smith in Atlanta.

He serves as vice chairman of the Salisbury Community Foundation and is a member of the Charlotte Regional Partnership board of directors, Catawba College Board of Advisors, Community Development Corp. Board, Rowan County United Way Board and the Salisbury Rotary Club. Steven, his wife, Robin and their three sons, Banks, Max and Jack, live in Salisbury. They are members of First Presbyterian Church where Steven serves as an elder.

Chartered in 1909, F&M Bank is a locally owned and operated financial institution with total assets of $518 million. It operates 11 offices in Rowan and Cabarrus counties.

Delhaize Group names Food Lion store manager of the year

SALISBURY — Store manager Charles Inman, who manages a Food Lion in Clayton, was named Delhaize Group’s Store Manager of the Year. 

Inman was selected from 3,400 store managers across the globe.  He received the award during a surprise ceremony at his store Monday. 

 In February, Inman was named Food Lion’s Store Manager of the Year.  As a result, he became eligible for the Delhaize Group award, joining 11 other store managers from the company. 

“Charles is an excellent leader in his store, in the community and across our company,” said Beth Newlands Campbell, president of Food Lion. “He is an incredibly humble leader who inspires his team to deliver outstanding service to our customers, ensuring they are top of mind with everyone who works in his store.” 

The award is based on financial performance, operational excellence, people management and values including integrity, determination, courage, humility and humor.

 Inman joined Food Lion in 2002 as a cashier, and has held positions of produce manager, office manager and assistant store manager. He lives in Cary.

CommunityOne Bank’s merger with Bank of Granite complete

ASHEBORO — CommunityOne Bank has completed a merger with Bank of Granite.

CommunityOne is now considered “well-capitalized” for purposes of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

CommunityOne was founded in 1907 in Asheboro and is the third largest bank in North Carolina. The company operates 55 branches in 44 communities.
