In the eGolf Tour’s Spring Creek Classic in Gordonsville, Va., Will Collins (Salisbury) tied the low round of the tournament on Thursday when she shot 65. Collins shot 72 on Wednesday, but he moved back into contention in the tournament. Collins is playing about 15 minutes from where he competed in college at Virginia.
Collins started his day on the back side with consecutive birdies on No. 10, No. 11 and No. 12 and also birdied No. 16 to make the turn at 32. He had one bogey and four birdies on the front nine, including back-to-back birdies on No. 6 and No. 7.
Collins was twice an all-region player at Virginia and also made the All-ACC Academic team twice.
Salisbury’s Frank Adams III shot 68 on Wednesday, but storms halted play on Thursday and he was one of the players whose rounds weren’t completed due to darkness.
Among the players who have completed two rounds, Collins is tied for second place, one shot off the pace.
Rowan County’s game scheduled for tonight at Mocksville was canceled.
Rowan is home against the Mooresville Legends on Saturday and opens league play in the Southeast Division of Area III when it hosts Southern Rowan on Sunday.
Southern Rowan plays the Mooresville Moors at Lake Norman tonight and hosts the Moors on Saturday.
Kannapolis starts league play at Stanly on Sunday.
Carson’s Junior Legion team lost 4-3 at Davidson County on Thursday.
Michael Morrison had three hits and scored two runs for Carson. Brandon Sloop knocked in a run.
The Kannapolis Intimidators held off the Rome Braves 4-3 on Thursday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Mike Marjama had three hits for Kannapolis. Eric Grabe, Jeremy Dowdy and Patrick Palmeiro drove in runs. Micah Johnson stole two bases to raise his season total to 52.
Brandon Brennan pitched into the seventh inning for his third win of the season.
Jason Ridenhour (North Rowan) has pitched in seven games for the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League.
Ridenhour (0-1) has a 2.57 ERA and has struck out 11 batters in 14 innings.
Hurley Y programs
The J.F. Hurley YMCA is holding registration for a T-Ball clinic (July), a volleyball camp (June 17-21), a track camp (July), a baseball camp (July), Little Shooters basketball (ages 4-6) and boys basketball (ages 7-14).
