The Humane Society of Rowan County will hold its first dog wash fundraiser of the season this Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the back entrance to Salisbury Mall. The organization has held dog washes for more than 30 years on the third Saturday of June, July and August, and the Salisbury Mall has hosted most of those events.
The September wash is held on the second Saturday of the month to coincide with the mall’s Community Day. Prices remain $8 for small dogs, $10 for medium, $12 for large and $14 for extra large dogs. One hundred percent of the proceeds are applied to veterinary expenses for sick or injured stray and abandoned animals.
The HSRC was formed in 1973 and is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to relief of suffering and prevention of cruelty to animals. The organization does not operate a shelter but depends on private homes for the foster care and rehabilitation of its rescued animals.
In addition to operating a low-cost spay/neuter service in cooperation with two local veterinarians, the HSRC maintains a pet food bank to assist pet owners in financial crisis. Donations of pet food and cat litter are always welcome. Volunteers will be available Saturday during the dog wash to accept donations for the food bank. The most immediate need is for dry cat food and cat litter.
