Authorities have charged a Cleveland woman with misdemeanor child abuse after the child’s grandmother called officials about bruising on the infant. Marlene Espinoza Hernandez, 35, of the 1000 block of Bear Poplar Road, was charged with misdemeanor child abuse. Hernandez was charged Thursday and remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
The agency received a call from Teresa Grubb, the 4-month-old’s grandmother and mother of the child’s father. Grubb told investigators she saw bruises on the infant. Grubb said she’d seen bruises over a period of time and took pictures of the child.
The mother, Grubb said, gave explanations that she didn’t feel were the complete truth. The two women went to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and Hernandez was arrested and charged a short time later.
