Runners carry torch for Special Olympics
Special Olympic athlete Patrick Mohwish helped carry the flame on its 10-mile journey Wednesday along with participants from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the Landis, China Grove and Salisbury police departments.
Salisbury Rowan runners and Jesse Carson High School’s cross country team also took part.
“The YMCA of Rowan County is honored to have Special Olympics as part of our programs. It ties directly into the YMCA’s mission, which is to build Christian principles through programs that build a healthy spirit mind and body for all,” according to a release from Jenny Buchanan Special Olympic coordinator for Rowan County. “Thank you to all the sponsors and organizations involved. Your courage and love allows Special Olympics Rowan County to continue to touch lives.”
