LandTrust annual meeting June 2 at Morgan Ridge
The LandTrust for Central North Carolina invites the public to its annual membership meeting on Sunday, June 2, at Morgan Ridge Vineyards, 486 John Morgan Road. A tour highlighting an ongoing conservation and habitat restoration project at the nearby Everhart property will be offered before the meeting, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The annual membership meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at the pavilion at Morgan Ridge Vineyards.
Admission to the event is free. An RSVP is required. The event will end at approximately 5:30 p.m.
“Our annual meeting is an opportunity for us to talk to members, friends, supporters and potential members about our achievements in the past year and our upcoming projects. We encourage anyone who may want to learn more about land conservation or our organization to attend,” says Jason Walser, executive director at The LandTrust. “This year we are excited to introduce our membership and the general public to the Everhart property, which is a privately initiated effort to restore and conserve a Gold Hill Flatwoods eco-system. We are also very pleased to conduct our annual meeting in the beautiful setting that is Morgan Ridge Vineyards, which as an excellent example of agricultural-based economic development and reflective of the LandTrust’s commitment to rural sustainability.”
“We have experienced a remarkably successful year in land conservation,” Walser adds. “The acquisition of Spencer Woods, the purchase of 308-acre Capel property in Montgomery County, and closing on the Springer property in Davie County, including the protection of the city of Salisbury’s drinking water intake site. We achieved over 730 acres in conservation easements on six unique and extraordinary properties, all accomplished in very a difficult economic environment. Further,” Walser states, “on the program side, Riverdance, our annual fundraiser, was the most successful in our history. We added two major events, the Dairy Dash 5K and Earth Day Jam to our outreach repertoire, while improving our website, including online giving, and we are in the process of pursuing accreditation through the Land Trust Alliance, the national organization that establishes land conservation standards and practices.”
Following the tour and a brief business meeting, a reception and tours of the winery and vineyards will be offered. Donations will be accepted to off-set the expense of the reception.
The LandTrust is the only private nonprofit land conservation organization serving Davie, Davidson, Cabarrus, Rowan, Stanly, Montgomery, Richmond and Anson counties. They also serve portions of Iredell and Randolph counties in the Yadkin watershed. It has conserved more than 22,000 acres since its formation in 1995.
