Authorities are looking for someone who tried to rob a Ridge Avenue man and shot him in the buttock.

The victim, Van Louis Jones Jr., 54, told Salisbury Police he was shot outside Wiley School Apartments by an unknown gunman. The incident occurred Monday at 4:15 p.m.

Jones was standing outside when a maroon colored vehicle driven by a female pulled alongside Jones, he told police. There were two males in the car, one of whom got out of the vehicle. The man pointed a gun at Jones and said “give it up,” a department report said. Police say the man was trying to rob Jones, but he refused to give the gunman anything. Jones walked away and was shot once in the buttock.

He managed to walk home and call 911. He was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center and later taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem because the location of the wound was close to an artery.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
