‘Change the World’
KANNAPOLIS — North Kannapolis United Methodist Church will host “Change the World,” a denomination-wide event that focuses on ministries beyond the church walls, this weekend.
Today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the church along with other volunteers will build a charity garden, designed to provide fresh produce to those in need especially those in Rowan County.

The church will collect non-perishable food and personal hygiene items from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Items can be dropped off at the church, 1307 N. Main St., to support Love Pantries at NKUMC and Kannapolis Middle School.
Crown In Glory
The Crown In Glory Lutheran Church youth group will be selling fish dinners and hot dogs today.
Dinners are $7 and hot dogs are $1.50. They can be picked up from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the church, 517 E. Bank St.
All money raised will be used to send youth to summer camp.
Solid Rock CoG
The Women’s Ministry of Solid Rock Church of God, 1004 Locke St., will host a prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. today with guest preacher the Rev. Audra Atkinson, wife of the Rev. Cornelius Atkinson who serves as pastor of Wilson Heights First Church of God Charlotte.
Seven young people will be confirmed with participation in an affirmation of baptism during the 10:30 service Sunday at Salem Lutheran Church, 5080 Sherrills Ford Road.
Sandy Ridge celebrates 147 years
LANDIS — Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church will celebrate its 147th church anniversary Sunday.
Founded in 1866 by a group of former slaves of Rowan County, the church has a continuous line of descendants that is still evident in the majority of the families of the current membership.
This year’s theme is “We are Grateful for Our Past and Excited about Our Future.”
There will be a memorial tribute to Joretha Lowery Sheely, a lifelong member of the church whose family can be traced back to the charter members.
Guest speaker at the 10 a.m. service will be Glenn Rogers, senior pastor and founder of Living Water Ministries of Charlotte.
The Sandy Ridge Victory Choir and Fresh Anointed Voices will provide the music minister.
The afternoon service is at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. David A. Williams as guest speaker. He is the pastor of Pleasant Ridge AME Zion Church of Gastonia.
The Pleasant Ridge choir will provide music.
The annual Hall of Fame induction, for members reaching their 70th birthday, will honor Dottie Rose.
Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church will hold its annual worship at Sloan Park at 10 a.m. Sunday.
All are invited to dress casually and gather at the outdoor theater for a Pentecost communion worship service followed by a picnic lunch at the Morgan Shelter. Bring goodies to eat, beverages and a lawn chair.

Soldiers Memorial’s 149th anniversary
Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, 306 N. Church St., will be celebrating its 149th anniversary service at 11 a.m. Sunday. The theme for this special occasion is “Continuing Our Legacy.”
The Right Reverend Joseph Johnson, retired bishop, is the guest speaker.
An anniversary reception will follow the service.
Mount Zion UCC
CHINA GROVE — Sunday is youth Sunday at Mount Zion United Church of Christ, 1415 South Main St., During the 11 a.m. service, youth will provide leadership and participate in the morning worship.
High school students Natalie Whicker and Aspen Mushala will deliver the message.
Middle schoolers Tayler Harwood and Ally Cress will sing a duet during the offering. The Gateway Middle High Youth Fellowship and Flock Senior High Youth Fellowship will present the skit, “7 Deadly Sins.”
Franklin Baptist Church, 3810 U.S. 601, will hold revival services Sunday through Wednesday with special guest speaker the Rev. Dave Kistler.
A fellowship dinner follows Sunday’s combined 11 a.m. service. Ladies are invited to bring a well-filled picnic basket to include guests.
Joint ‘Worship In the Park’
The annual joint “Worship in the Park” service with Franklin Presbyterian Church and John Calvin Presbyterian Church will be at Dan Nicholas Park at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The worship service will be in the outdoor theater at the park and a covered dish picnic will be under picnic shelter No. 3 following the service. In case of rain, the service will take place under shelter No. 3.
The two church choirs will join together. Katherine Lamb will deliver the message.
Mount Tabor UMC
Mount Tabor United Methodist Church will host “A Pentecost Celebration” at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Balloons, pom poms and a dramatic reading will help celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. Wear red and come be a part of the worship experience.

Providence AME Zion
Providence AME Zion Church, 2415 Providence Church Road, will hold pastor appreciation day to honor the Rev. Zacharias Allen Sr. at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Ollie Powe III, founder and former pastor of Trinity Full Gospel AME Zion Church of Mobile, Ala.
Dinner will be served in the fellowship hall from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Gethsemane Missionary Baptist
The G. B. Stowe/Gethsemane scholarship will celebrate May scholarship Sunday.
The theme for the scholarship is “Striving to be the Best; Spiritually and Educationally.”

The Usher Board of First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 S. Long St., will celebrate its anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary.
The Rev. Tim Bates will be the guest speaker.

The event will feature a Twelve Tribe Rally. The program starts at 3 p.m.

MOCKSVILLE — Family and friends day will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church, 3727 US 601 S., at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Guest choirs from Gethsemane Baptist Church, Erwin Temple CME Church and Chosen Church of Faith will sing.
Also on the program are the Disciples of Joy, Boyden Quarters Choir and praise dancers Sierra Watkins and The Chosen 2 Praise Team.

She holds a Bachelors in Business Administration from Johnson C. Smith University, and is married to Bruce Little, founder and pastor of Miracle House, and she serves as CEO.

Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church’s Stewardess Board is sponsoring a bus trip to to Pharr Chapel AME Zion Church in Old Fort, where the Rev. Patrick Tate will preach at 3 p.m Sunday. The cost is $20 per person and lunch will be served. The bus leaves from Southern City AME Zion Church parking lot at noon.
