A memorial service honoring fallen firefighters Victor Isler and Justin Monroe will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday, March 7 at the Salisbury Firefighters Memorial, 1402 S. Main St. The public is invited to attend.
The Dixonville Cemetery Memorial Task Force will host a public event called “Lighting the Way” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 S. Long St.
The event will begin with a short program on the design of the proposed memorial. Following the program, participants will walk to Dixonville Cemetery where more than 500 luminaries will line the path to commemorate known and unknown individuals interred in the cemetery.
Chloe and Dick Goho will host an open house Sunday for people to learn about residential solar energy.
The Gohos have installed 20 photovoltaic panels mounted on a concrete pad at their home, 5 Old Farm Road in the Hidden Hut development off N.C. 150.
People who attend the open house can learn about solar photovoltaic panels, solar skylights, solar hot water and other measures to make their homes more eco-friendly and energy efficient, as well as available tax credits for solar energy.
The open house is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The city of Salisbury is seeking citizens who have an interest in serving on one of the city’s boards and commissions.
Applications are being accepted for all boards and will be forwarded to council members as they consider appointments beginning in March. Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Dog PAWS task force, will host the Woof Stock Dog Park fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 29 at the site of the city’s future dog park, the Salisbury Civic Center at 315 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. The event will include music, food, demonstrations, a fun dog show and more. All proceeds will go toward construction of the dog park. The event is open to the public.
