ENOCHVILLE — The Enochville Fire and Rescue Department will hold a public hearing May 24 on a proposed fire tax increase.

The hearing starts at 7 p.m. at the Fire and Rescue Station, 808 N. Enochville Ave.

Department officials propose increasing the tax from .06 cents to .07 cents. They say the funds are needed to replace an 18-year-old “first out” piece of apparatus, replace outdated self-contained breathing apparatus and buy equipment needed to help the department improve its insurance rating.
