CHARLOTTE (AP) — State health officials say a southeast Charlotte abortion clinic that was ordered closed following an investigation into the administration of a drug that terminates pregnancies can reopen.

Spokesman Ricky Diaz of N.C. Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday that A Preferred Woman’s Health Center can reopen on Wednesday morning.

The clinic’s certificate to operate was suspended over use of the drug Methotrexate, which is used to induce abortions.

The department began an investigation in late April. Documents show a 19-year-old woman came to the clinic for an abortion procedure and was given Methotrexate orally. A month later, documents say she returned to the clinic, still pregnant, and had to undergo a “surgical abortion procedure.”

Diaz said the clinic provided a plan to end inappropriate use of the medication.
