SALISBURY — WBTV (Channel 3) in Charlotte will feature 15-year-old truck puller Valerie Carriker in a segment of its “Carolina Camera” show, airing from 9-10 p.m. Friday, May 24.

The Post featured Carriker, a student at West Rowan High School, in a story last June. On weekends, Carriker often competes inside a roaring 1979 Ford F-250 built to pull 40,000 pounds. The truck has a 500 cubic-inch engine and 600 horsepower.

Last year, Carriker was the youngest face on the regional truck-pulling circuit. She grew up watching her father, “Big John” Carriker, compete and work on his own Ford F-150. Now he’s her No. 1 mechanic and pit crew.

Cindy Carriker, Valerie’s mother, says she has reserved a dining room at Mr. Gatti’s Pizza with three large-screen televisions so family and friends can watch the “Carolina Camera” show.
