Local Bridge: Redoubling
In a competitive auction, you may need some extra ways to convey point count and support for partner.
Partner has opened, showing 13 HCP and you hold 10 or more HCP. Opener’s LHO doubles.
You know that your partnership holds the majority of points and may be able to score better by defending an opponent’s doubled bid.
So with 10 or more points you redouble. This tells partner you have enough to make his doubled-redoubled bid or if opponents chose to bid again, you will safely double their bid, planning to score well by defeating their bid.
Remember that any bid by you, other than redouble, shows less than 10 HCP and at least 5 cards in your bid suit.
This is board No. 16 from May 3. All pairs were in spades except the Winecoffs, who bid and made 6NT E
