RALEIGH — A Salisbury businessman is among three people appointed today by Gov. Pat McCrory to the State Board of Education.
Gregory Alcorn is founder and CEO of Global Contact Services and went to Catawba College the same time McCrory did. Alcorn formerly was president of SOMAR Inc. in Salisbury.
McCrory also appointed Bill Cobey of Durham and Becky Taylor of Greenville to the state’s policy-making board for the public schools.
The General Assembly must vote to confirm the new governor’s choices.
Cobey served one term in Congress in the mid-1980s and was state health and environment secretary under then-Gov. Jim Martin. He was state GOP chairman for four years.
Taylor operates tutoring centers in eastern North Carolina.
The three would serve terms through March 2019.
