Summer Fun-Camp Cannon and Shady Grove camp

CONCORD — Camp Cannon offers parents a variety of camp options designed to develop healthy living habits in children ages 4-17. Camps are offered in cooking, nutrition and fitness.

Creative Cooking — Ages 5-12 learn how to use healthy ingredients to make appetizers and fun treats. Budding chefs will not only learn basic cooking skills, but also nutrition information about the food they prepare.


Adventures in Fitness — Ages 4-6 learn how to have fun by being active. Campers will learn about teamwork and cooperation while navigating obstacle courses, running relays, hiking trails and learning healthy recipes.

Zumbatomic — Ages 4-12, the perfect combination of fitness and fun. Campers will improve coordination, self-confidence and focus while learning international dances such as salsa, merengue, samba and Soca.

Exploratory Fitness and Conditioning — Ages 10-13, designed for athletes to explore fitness training while conditioning for fall sports. Traditional strength, cardio and agility methods of training are discussed and implemented alongside newer methods such as plyometric exercises, kettle bell workouts, yoga and MovNat. This camp also provides exploration of nutrition and hydration habits, providing athletes with personalized fitness plans that are fun, challenging and sport-specific.

Camp Cannon runs for seven weeks on Cannon School’s Concord campus June 10-Aug. 2, with the exception of the week of July 1. Cannon School is at 5801 Poplar Tent Road in Concord. ‘The Hunger Games’ at Camp Cannon

CONCORD — The movie “The Hunger Games” was a box-office sensation. This summer, children ages 10-14 will again be able to explore the land of Panem in a camp offered July 8-12 from 9 a.m. until noon.

“The Hunger Games” is a science fiction drama based on the young adult novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins.

Free summer camp for low-income housing

MT. ULLA — Shady Grove Baptist Church will host a summer camp to provide a place where children of low-income housing can belong and feel safe. The camp will be sponsored by Giving Hands Ministry and C.A.R.E. (Children Are Reason Enough). Shady Grove Baptist Church is located at 220 Shady Grove Church Road.
