Law enforcement charged a China Grove man with possession of black tar heroin after receiving information from the public that prompted an investigation.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged James Lee Jackson, 25, of the 900 block of Shue Road, with trafficking heroin, possession with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a controlled substance and maintaining a dwelling place for controlled substances, all are felonies.

When deputies went to Jackson’s mobile home to serve a search warrant, they found the heroin packaged in three small balloons, totaling 4 grams.

Also at the home were digital scales, syringes and needles, an arrest warrant said.

Jackson is expected in court Thursday regarding charges of reckless driving and hit and run/leaving the scene. He is also slated to be in court in July for traffic violations of speeding and driving while license revoked.

Jackson has been convicted of drug possession, driving while impaired, larceny, assault by strangulation, burglary, felony breaking and entering as well as safecracking.

Jackson was issued a $100,000 secured bond and remains in the county jail.
