The Humane Society of Rowan County will hold its Lights of Love display this Friday evening around Salisbury City Lake. This annual event coincides with the American Humane Association’s Be Kind to Animals Week, a celebration in honor of all the creatures who share our earth. The purpose of Lights of Love is to pay tribute to the vital role animals play in our lives and to honor those who provide love and care for our animal friends and for each other. Luminaria in honor or memory of a person or animal can be purchased for $3 each. Call 704-636-5700, option 9, and leave a message to purchase. Orders will be accepted until 6 p.m. on Friday. Volunteers will check messages throughout the day and will be set up in front of the Stitchin’ Post Gifts, 104 N. Main St., during Night on the Town to accept orders. Lights will glow around the City Lake from dusk until 9:30 p.m.

The Humane Society of Rowan County is a volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is to relieve suffering of animals and prevent cruelty to animals. The HSRC does not operate a shelter but depends on private homes for the foster care of its animals. It operates reduced cost spay/neuter clinics with two local veterinarians and assists families in financial crisis with pet food whenever possible. Pet food donations may be brought to the event Friday evening.
