Community Action Day scheduled for May 17
The Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency, Inc. (SRCAA) is hosting a Community Action Day event on Friday, May 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of National Community Action Month for the Salisbury community. The event will be held at 1300 W. Bank St., Salisbury, and will include free food, games and special activities for children and adults. In addition, financial fitness workshops will be conducted and local partners will offer services provided by their agencies.
The national office of the Community Action Partnership designates May as National Community Action Month to recognize Community Action Agencies’ work fighting poverty on the local level. Each year, Community Action Agencies help 20 million Americans achieve and maintain financial stability through programs such as Head Start, Weatherization, job training and placement, financial education, housing, energy assistance and transportation.
The services provided by Community Action Agencies are even more critical as elected officials in Washington discuss balancing the budget, deficit reduction and spending cuts to key human services programs, while tens of millions of Americans across the country are struggling financially.
