Authorities charged a Salisbury man attending a Saturday wedding at the Salisbury Depot with carrying a handgun without a permit. Salisbury Police charged Jerry Lawerence Overcash Jr., 37, of the 200 block of Knollwood Drive, with misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.

The officer believed Overcash was intoxicated. The man, who officers later identified as Overcash, shouted expletives at the officer. The officer told him to be quiet and to return inside. He did not comply but mentioned having a gun, a department report said. The officer confronted Overcash, who said he really did have a handgun. The officer grabbed Overcash by the hand as Overcash pulled his gun from his pocket with the other hand. The officer asked Overcash if he had a concealed carry permit. Overcash said he did not. He was charged, given a $500 secured bond and placed in the Rowan County Detention Center. Overcash has since been released.
