Authorities are looking for a thief who broke into Kmart and took jewelry from the store early this morning using a stepping stone from the garden center.

Someone broke into the store, located at 815 E. Innes St., around 2:30 a.m. Officers arrived to the alarm sounding where the front door had been broken into, a report said.

Someone had used a paver from the garden section to break the glass door. Once inside, the thief took a spinning jewelry display case and items from underneath the jewelry counter. The missing items are estimated to be worth about $3,000. The damage to the door was valued at $200. The suspect was wearing a large, gray hooded jacket and blue jeans. No other items appeared to be taken.

This is the second time in three months someone took jewelry from the store. In February two men walked into the store and within less than two minutes stole items from the jewelry display case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
