Prep track: North boys are region co-champs

North Rowan was co-champion of the 1A Midwest Regional track meet on Saturday, scoring 90.5 points and sharing the title with host Monroe.
Hunter Walker won the 110 (14.93 seconds) and 300 hurdles (42.24) for the Cavaliers.
North’s Alexis Archie won the shot put (46 feet, 5 inches). North’s 4x100 relay team of Xavier Robinson, Daylon Gray, Courtney Roseborough and Eric Gadson won in 44.14.
Top-four finishers qualified for the state meet to be held in Greensboro on Friday.
Gadson placed second in the 200 (22.91). North’s 4x200 relay team of Robinson, Gray, Walker and Gadson placed second (1:31.39). Shane Parker was third in the shot put (43-2). Demiah Hawkins was fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.03). The 4x400 team of Darrius Wallace, Khandler Kimber, Hawkins and Kenneth Frey placed fourth in 3:40. Isiah Corpening was fourth in the discus (130-1).
Albemarle finished ninth with 31 points. Gray Stone was 17th with 10 points.
•Monroe scored 180 points and easily won the girls regional.
Gray Stone placed seventh with 41 points. Gray Stone’s Caroline McLeod was second in the 3200, and Gray Stone’s 4x800 team of Rebecca Brickner, Kelsey Kiser, Sarah Goodnight and McLeod also placed second.
In the 3A Midwest Regional held at Mount Pleasant on Saturday, Marvin Ridge won with 116.5 points. Robinson was second at 111.5. East Rowan (52) placed fourth, with A.L. Brown fifth (49.5), Statesville sixth (38), Carson eighth (33), West Rowan ninth (32.5), and Northwest Cabarrus 12th (24).
Rowan champions were East’s Marshall Shank in the pole vault (13-0) and Carson’s Andrew Hower in the high jump (6-2).
Carson’s Tre Williams placed second in the discus (141-6) and also took fourth in the shot (44-5).Carson’s Myquon Stout was second in the shot (46-8 1/2). West’s Raykwon Torrence was second in the long jump (20-10 /2). West’s Chris Patterson was second in the triple jump (42-10). East’s Wesley Haynes was second in the pole vault (12-6).
A.L. Brown’s Jamel Logan was third in the discus (137-6). A.L. Brown’s Kalif Phillips was third in the triple jump (42-10). West’s Caleb Cranfield placed third in the pole vault (12-6).
East’s Donte Means was fourth in the triple jump (42-9). East’s Graham Lyerly was fourth in the 800 (2:03.70).A.L. Brown’s Terry Campbell was fourth in the 100 (11.5) and 200 (22.3). East’s 4x100 team of Josh Little, Calvin Edwards, Means and Dalton Moose placed fourth in 44.5. East’s 4x800 team of Deepan Patel, Conor Honeycutt, Josh Rowell and Lyerly placed fourth in 8:45.
A.L. Brown qualified its 4x400 (fourth, 3:38), 4x200 (fourth, 1:32) and 4x800 (third, 8:12) for the state meet.
•In the 3A girls regional, Berry won with 126 points. A.L. Brown (65.5) placed third. Northwest Cabarrus (43) was sixth. West Rowan (42.5) was seventh. East Rowan (27) was eighth. Carson scored 9.5 points, while South Rowan scored 1.
A.L. Brown’s Talvanisha Lawing won three events, taking the 100 hurdles (16.5), long jump (16-8) and triple jump (34-3 1/2). Lawing also was third in the 300 hurdles (49.3).
West Rowan’s Takala Lyles won the shot put (31-8). East Rowan’s Haylee Gardner won the discus (100-6). Northwest’s Maddie Lowe won the 1600 (5:23.56).
West’s Allison Manley was second in the shot (31-21/2). A.L. Brown’s Derra Cowan was second in the 200 (26.2).
East’s Brittany Small was third in the high jump (4-10). Carson’s Jesse Troutman tied for third in the pole vault (8-6).
East’s Melissa Greene was fourth in the high jump (4-10). West’s Shikkera McNeely was fourth in the shot (30-2 1/2). A.L. Brown’s Jada Balknight was fourth in the discus (79-4 1/2).
