Amtrak to celebrate national train day May 11 with $5 fares for children

WASHINGTON – Salisbury and Kannapolis will be among the 17 North Carolina communities joining Amtrak on the sixth annual National Train Day on Saturday, May 11.

Train enthusiasts can take advantage of a special fare for children. Those ages 2–15 will get a one-way $5 fare to and from any North Carolina destination on National Train Day. You can book online or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL. Ticketing can also be done using Amtrak eTicketing and your boarding documents can be self-printed at home of at a staffed station.

People can join the celebration by visiting train stations as well as the Lexington Farmer’s Market, North Carolina Transportation Museum and Wilmington Railroad Museum. There will be refreshments, children’s activities as well as train schedules, trip planning information, giveaways, and staff and volunteers to answer train travel questions.

More than 200 communities are hosting events nationwide for National Train Day.
