On April 17, the Kannapolis Police Department received a service call from a female victim at the Food Lion at 2825 N. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, regarding an assault. The victim, who is also an employee of Food Lion, said that she helped an older white male, approximately 65 years old, take groceries to his vehicle.

The older male was wearing a black suit, had white hair and was approximately 6 feet tall.

When the victim and suspect got to his vehicle, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim by the arms and attempted to push her into the vehicle. The victim began yelling for him to stop and she broke away from his grasp and went inside the store. The suspect then left the scene. A vehicle description was given out.

The investigation developed Bobby J. Childress as a suspect in the event. Warrants were later obtained and he was located Thursday at 1330 Julius Drive, Salisbury, by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. Childress was arrested and has been charged with one count of assault on a female.

The Kannapolis Police Department requests anyone with information regarding this incident or others to call 704-920-4000 or Crime Stoppers at 704-932-7463 or (932-CRIME).
