EAST SPENCER — A Charlotte man on parole after serving time for a 2001 bank robbery is in jail in Rowan County under $500,000 bond after police say he forced his way into an East Spencer home Saturday night, pistol whipped the occupant, bit his ear and fled.
Dante Xavia Duffy, 34, of North College Street in Charlotte, and an accomplice knocked on the door at 806 Moore St. in East Spencer around 7 p.m. Saturday night, police said.
When Dallas Labran Davis answered, police said Duffy and the accomplice forced their way inside at gunpoint. Davis told authorities the men said they were going to kill him.
A woman in the home jumped out the window and called 911, authorities said. When East Spencer police responded to the home invasion, they found Duffy and another man walking away from the house.
A chase ensued, and the accomplice escaped, authorities said.
Police used a stun gun repeatedly on Duffy to subdue him. He had his hand on a loaded gun hidden under his chest while he was on the ground, police said.
Duffy was convicted in 2002 in federal court for bank robbery and sentenced to at least seven years in prison. He has been on parole since his release, authorities said.
He used a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun to hit Davis on the back of head and bit his left ear, police said.
Duffy is charged with first-degree burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon, communicating threats, assault by pointing a gun, two counts of resisting a public officer, assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault and felony larceny. Police said he stole Davis’ gold and diamond watch, worth $4,500.
Duffy is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
