Letters from Home

Here’s your chance to share Christmas cheer with local people stationed abroad in the military.
For the past few years, the Post has asked readers to share addresses of family members who were in the military and would be stationed far from home during the holidays. We publish the addresses in hopes people here will let our troops know folks here are thinking about them.
The United States has 1.4 million people on active duty in the military. Some 173,000 troops are stationed in 150 countries around the world — more than 60,000 in Afghanistan.
Here are the addresses of eight members of the military with Rowan County connections whose families think they would appreciate messages from home over the holidays.
To get to the farthest bases by Christmas Day, the U.S. Postal Service recommends letters and cards be mailed first class by Dec. 3. The deadline for other foreign posts is Dec. 10.
If you know someone else who might like some letters from home, email their information to editor@salisburypost.
“I would like to submit my son’s name to the Christmas wish list,” writes Carol Campbell. “Unfortunately for obvious reasons, I cannot reveal a lot of information; however, he has been in the U.S. Air Force for 14 1/2 years.
“This makes the second holiday season in a row that he has been deployed and I would like to thank the Post and the community for their support. He was truly overwhelmed last year at the amount of mail he received.”
