CONCORD — Police are investigating a bank robbery that happened midday Monday.

At about noon, a Concord Police Department news release said, a masked man walked into the N.C. State Employees Credit Union at 538 Lake Concord Road. He displayed a handgun, jumped the counter and took cash from tellers’ drawers. He put the money in a small black bag.

The man left the credit union on foot, but investigators suspect he walked to a parking lot adjacent to the bank and drove away in a black Mercedes-Benz sedan. He took Branchview Drive to Copperfield Boulevard, then turned left on Roxie Street, where he was involved in a minor traffic accident. The Mercedes sustained damage to the right rear taillight area, but the driver kept going.

Investigators ask anyone with information to call the Concord Police Department at  704-920-5000 or the FBI at 704-672-6100.
