The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed Brantley Road west of Old Salisbury-Concord Road in Kannapolis for emergency repairs due to an underground pipe failure.

NCDOT crews this morning discovered a concrete pipe beginning to separate in several sections, compromising the road’s pavement. Repairs are under way and are expected to continue through 3:30 p.m. Friday.

There is not a posted detour around the site. Motorists are advised to take Brantley Road to Old Salisbury-Concord Road, turn left to Main Street and cross over I-85, turn left to China Grove Road, and follow back to Brantley Road.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.

For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit www.ncdot.gov/travel or follow NCDOT on Twitter at www.ncdot.gov/travel/twitter. Another option is NCDOT Mobile, a phone-friendly version of the NCDOT website. To access it, type “m.ncdot.gov” into the browser of your smartphone. Then, bookmark it to save for future reference.
