After five years, Courtyard Marriott opens

SALISBURY — A crowd of dignitaries and business leaders turned out Wednesday to officially open the new Courtyard Marriott on East Innes Street.

The hotel project took more than five years from start to finish due to the recession and government red tape. The project’s notorious delays helped force changes to the local permitting process.


“We are finally open,” owner Bhupen Patel said.

Salisbury and Rowan County leaders welcomed Patel and his hotel development company, BPR Properties, and said the Courtyard Marriott will boost local tourism.
