Wet grounds forced the postponement of first-round games in the CCC and NPC baseball tournaments.

• NPC games scheduled for tonight are No. 7 Statesville at No. 2 East Rowan; No 6 West Iredell at No. 3 South Rowan, and No. 5 North Iredell at No. 4 West Rowan.


The semifinals are still set for Wednesday at South, and the championship game is scheduled for Thursday at South.

No. 1 Carson plays the winner of the West Iredell-West Rowan game on Wednesday at 4:15.

• In the CCC tonight, No. 6 Thomasville is at No. 3 West Davidson and No. 5 Lexington is at No. 4 Central Davidson.

Salisbury will take on the West Davidson-Thomasville winner in the nightcap of a semifinal doubleheader at West Davidson on Wednesday. The championship game will be Thursday at West Davidson.

• In the CPC, the whole tournament will be held at West Forsyth. No. 3 Davie plays No. 6 Mount Tabor tonight at 7 p.m.

• In the YVC, No. 6 North Rowan plays its first-round game on Wednesday at No. 3 Chatham Central.

• In the SPC, first-round games set for tonight include No. 8 A.L. Brown at No. 1 Mount Pleasant and No. 7 Northwest Cabarrus at No. 2 Hickory Ridge. No. 6 Concord is at No. 3 Robinson. No. 5 Cox Mill is at No. 4 Central Cabarrus.

Prep tennis

Salisbury (13-3) is home today in the first round of the 2A dual team state playoffs.

The Hornets host Bandys (10-4), a wild-card team.

• NPC champion East Rowan (12-3) is on the road at Morganton Patton (9-3) in the first round of the 3A playoffs today.

Prep cross country

East Rowan wa recognized by the NCHSAA as having the state’s highest GPA for a girls cross country team (3.84).

Prep softball

Tournament action was postponed Monday.

• Davie’s girls wrapped the CPC regular season with a 15-1 win against R.J. Reynolds.

Sarah Myers went 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs and also was the winning pitcher.

Prep basketball

Howard West, 66, the winningest active basketball coach in the state with 715 victories, is changing venues. West has coached at Reagan the past eight seasons but is moving to Forsyth Country Day.

Local golf

The first practice day for the Rowan County Church Golf League is today at 5:30 p.m. at McCanless. This practice day is for churches starting with A-H.

Intimidators baseball

The Kannapolis Intimidators were rained out on Monday in Charleston, S.C., and today is a day off. The Intimidators will play at Savannah on Wednesday.

College baseball

Coker beat King 6-3 on Monday to win the Conference Carolinas tournament and secure an automatic bid for the Southeast Regional.

• The All American Collegiate Baseball League plans to field several area teams this summer — including the Davie Pioneers, Carolina Freedom, Rowan Patriots, the Wilkes Warriors, the Mount Pleasant Militia, and the Mooresville All Americans. The Patriots will play at Staton Field. The Pioneers will play at Rich Park. The Freedom will play at North Rowan High.

Youth football coaches

Anyone interested in coaching football for the Salisbury 49ers should attend an organizational meeting on Thursday, April 25, at 6 p.m. at Hall Gym.

Youth baseball

Extreme Performance Baseball (see photo below) recently won the the All-American Sun-Drop/Cheerwine Bash in Gastonia. Extreme has won two of five tournament it’s entered in the 11U division and also was runner-up in the The Legends of Spring Super Regional in Mooresville.

Team members are Mitch Jeter, Trace Beaver, Ray Beaver, Gavin Sprinkle, Cade Sells, Jack Fisher, Luke Koppe, Zeb Burns, Zach Marlock, Jake Davis and Garrett Jacobs. Coaches are Tim Burns, Jon Koppe, TJ Martlock and Mark Davis.
