Area Sports Briefs:

Conference tournaments will be held this week in baseball and softball. If a team seeded below No. 2 wins a tournament, that teams moves up to a No. 2 seed for the state playoffs.

The NPC baseball tournament is scheduled to start tonight, with No. 7 Statesville at No. 2 East Rowan; No. 6 West Iredell at No. 3 South Rowan, and No. 5 North Iredell at No. 4 West Rowan.

No. 1 seed Carson has a bye into the semifinals, which will be played on Wednesday at South Rowan. Carson will play in the 4:15 game of a semifinal doubleheader. The championship game is set for Thursday night at South Rowan.

The seven-team NPC gets four playoffs berths. West Rowan would be bumped out of the playoffs if North Iredell, West Iredell or Statesville wins the tournament.

•In the NPC softball tournament, first-round games scheduled for today include No. 7 Statesville at No. 2 North Iredell; No. 6 West Iredell at No. 3 Carson, and No. 5 South Rowan at No. 4 West Rowan.

No. 1 seed East Rowan will play in the 4:15 p.m. game of a semifinal doubleheader that is scheduled for Wednesday at North Iredell. The championship game will be played at North Iredell on Thursday.

• The six-team CCC tournaments are set to start today.

Salisbury’s baseball team is the No. 2 seed and has a bye into Tuesday’s semifinals. Both semifinals and Thursday’s championship game will be played at West Davidson.

• Salisbury’s softball team is the No. 4 seed in the CCC and will play a first-round game at home today against No. 5 Thomasville. East Davidson is hosting the semifinals and championship game.

• In the YVC, action won’t start until Wednesday.

North Rowan is the No. 6 seed in the baseball tournament and plays at No. 3 Chatham Central at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. North Moore is the host team for Friday’s semifinals and next Monday’s championship game. While North Rowan didn’t finish in the top five in the nine-team YVC, it is certain to be a wild-card team in the 1A playoffs if it doesn’t win the tournament.

• North Rowan’s softball team is seeded seventh and plays at No. 2 seed South Stanly on Wednesday.

• The eight-team SPC baseball tournament has first-round games set for Tuesday, with No. 8 A.L. Brown at No. 1 Mount Pleasant; No. 7 Northwest Cabarrus at No. 2 Hickory Ridge; No. 6 Concord at No. 3 Robinson, and No. 5 Cox Mill at No. 4 Central Cabarrus.

Mount Pleasant is the host for Wednesday’s semis and Friday’s championship game.

• The entire CPC baseball tournament will be played at West Forsyth. Davie will take on Mount Tabor on Tuesday.


Julie Noblitt bowled a sanctioned 300 game at Kannapolis’ Foxfire Lanes on Sunday.

The bowling center in Kannapolis opened in 1961, and Noblitt is the first female to roll a 300 in a sanctioned tournament event in Kannapolis. Her series was a personal-best 709.

Prep softball

North Rowan won 5-3 against South Davidson on Senior Night. Seniors Taylor Sells and Chasity Young were honored before the game. Sells was the winning pitcher.

College baseball

Guilford freshman catcher Nathan Fulbright was named to the All-ODAC third team. Fulbright batted .390 in conference play with a .500 on-base percentage and 17 RBIs.

• Coker beat King 14-11 in the Conference Carolinas tournament to set up a decisive championship game between the two. Play was stopped by rain after two innings Sunday and will be completed today.

Intimidators baseball

Kannapolis pitcher Jake Cose had a no-hitter until the sixth inning, but the Intimidators lost 1-0 at Charleston, S.C., on Sunday.
