More stores coming to Wallace Commons?
SALISBURY — More stores could be headed to Wallace Commons at Interstate 85 on Klumac Road, where the new Belk is under construction.
A developer interested in building on a vacant outparcel next to Long Horn Steakhouse has talked to the city about plans for a retail store and medical office, according to the city’s zoning administrator, David Phillips.
No plans have been submitted to the city’s One Stop Development Shop yet, but talks between staff and the developer have included discussion of an 8,000-square-foot building that would house both retail and medical, Phillips said.
An online flyer advertising Wallace Commons shows not only the proposed retail-medical building but also a fast food restaurant on another vacant outparcel near Long Horn.
The website for Providence Group, the Charlotte real estate firm that manages Wallace Commons, includes the flyer.
Victor Wallace, whose family co-owns Wallace Commons but does not handle leasing, said he could not comment on the proposed development. Co-owner Collett and Associates of Charlotte oversees leasing at the development, and no one from Collett returned calls from the Post.
The Hutton Company, a developer based in Tennessee, is building the 75,000-square-foot Belk department store, as well as a new Michael’s Crafts, Ulta Beauty and Shoe Carnival connecting to the existing Kohl’s. The expansion is expected to open this fall.
