STATESVILLE — The beat marched on for West Rowan's girls soccer team in a 3-1 win at Statesville in the conference finale Thursday.

West won its 38th straight NPC game and ended the season 12-0 in league play.

“I'm so proud of these kids for what they have accomplished,” West coach Nick Brown said. “We have lost a lot of key players over the years and the fact that we have been able to win so many conference games against some good opponents is just a testament to the amount of hard work that these kids put in on a daily basis.”

Wingate signee Toni Lucente opened the scoring as she got on the end of a through ball, from Kayla Boley, beat Greyhounds goalkeeper Caroline Downs to the ball and headed into the back of the net.

Seven minutes after that, Lucente played a beautiful through ball to Mariah Coleman, who beat two defenders, drew the goalkeeper out of position and laid the ball across the front of the net for Kelly Boley to tap in her 12th goal of the season.

With nine minute remaining in the first half, Statesville was able to pull a goal back as Rose Brown collected a loose ball in the falcons eighteen and slotted a shot passed Joana Samano.

With eighteen minutes left in the match, west got the insurance marker as Lucente collected a pass from Madison Muire and riffled her 103rd career goal into the top corner.

Rebecca Parker and Meredith Stanley both played solid games for West. The Falcons (17-1, 12-0) last lost an NPC game April 26, 2010. They play at Hickory Tuesday and host J.M. Robinson Wednesday.
