SALISBURY — Food Lion employees pitched in during the city’s Spring Spruce-Up Week to clean up the area around their company headquarters.

About 10 volunteers donned gloves and safety vests Wednesday to pick up litter along Harrison Road.

They filled 32 garbage bags — every bag provided by the city — and also picked up tires, five-gallon buckets, scrap wood and more.

The city’s Community Appearance Commission and Public Service Department sponsor spruce-up week twice a year.
