East Rowan clothes drive helps more than 150 people, raises money for family crisis house
GRANITE QUARRY — The “ER Helping Hands Clothes Drive,” held Saturday at East Rowan High School, was a considerable success, according to student and parent organizers.
“With bag purchases and some donations, we raised $351 for the family crisis house,” Christie Sparger said.
“The moms and students did a great job setting up the event and estimated we helped over 150 people,”
Sparger said thanks should go to everybody who donated items during the clothes drive leading up to the event. She gave special thanks to Food Lion for its contribution of grocery bags and Thompson Screen Print for the many boxes of shirts it donated.
“Families who attended were very appreciative and hope that we do this again,” Sparger said. “Students that worked the event commented on how nice it was to see people excited about getting the items and not having to spend a lot.”
Sparger said children enjoyed coloring at an art table while parents shopped. Items that were left over were donated to the Nazareth Store in Salisbury.
