SALISBURY —Eleven students were recently inducted into the North Hills Christian (NHCS) high school chapter of Junior Civitan.

Junior Civitan International is a volunteer community service organization for young people, dedicated to building good citizenship, developing leadership skills, and helping people with developmental disabilities.

The North Hills inductees were Sara Lynn Carlton, Brittney Hogan, Savanna Li, Becca Loflin, Brittany Lyerly, Candace-Craig Lyerly, Jordan Moore, Mariah Murdock, Jo Park, Camyron Pressley and Jordan Smith.

The club now has 27 members. Their advisors are faculty members Mrs. Constance McGrail and Mr. Eric West. The club will plan and participate in service projects throughout the year.

The club members recently served with Habitat for Humanity. Fifteen of them worked on two houses to tidy them up for an open house. Their work included landscaping, cleaning, and attaching hardware to cabinets. This year, they have also raised money and helped with the Pregnancy Support Center’s “Walk for Life,” and they have ushered at the Norvell Children’s Theater.

This spring, students will coordinate North Hills’ Field Day, serve the afternoon meal at Rowan Helping Ministries, and help participants at the Special Olympics at West Rowan High School.

Junior Civitan International was established in 1932 and has approximately 12,000 members in nearly 400 clubs located in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
