Salisbury police are looking for a Steeplechase Trail man who they say punched a woman, took her wallet and held her against her will in a local motel.
Warrants have been issued for Joseph Daevon Walker, 28, for misdemeanor assault on a female, felony common law robbery and felony false imprisonment.
The incident occurred Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. at Economy Inn, Bendix Drive, when a woman asked the front desk to call police. The Post does not identify victims of domestic violence.
Authorities say the woman was held inside a room there by Walker and she used a sheet tied to a chair to climb out the window. When officers arrived, they found the room in disarray. Food had been tossed against a wall, a couch blocked the bathroom door and the phone had been ripped from the wall, said Capt. Shelia Lingle.
Police say Walker and the woman know each other.
Walker had been in the room with the woman. She told him to leave, but he pushed her to the floor and punched her in the mouth. She tried to call 911 from the hotel phone and Walker pulled the cord from the wall, a report said.
Walker took the woman’s cell phone and later her purse when she tried to get help from the hotel staff. He blocked the door and sometime later fell asleep. That’s when the woman climbed out a window.
Anyone with information about Walker is asked to contact the Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
