Man charged with assaulting nurse in hospital ER

Salisbury Police charged an East Spencer man Saturday with assaulting an emergency room nurse at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

Orlando Black, 52, of 418 E. Torbush Drive, East Spencer, hit the nurse in her face with his fist as she was attempting to dispense medication to him.


The assault caused bruising and swelling about the nurse’s lips and other areas of her face, reports said. Bond was set at $5,000.

Elsewhere, Salisbury Police charged Eddie Charles Gladden of 514 Bringle Ferry Road with assault on a female and resisting a public officer Saturday.

Gladden, 54, is accused of hitting Starr Gladden of the same address above an eye and on her back with his fist. Reports say he also refused to put down a cellphone and place his hands behind his back during his attempted arrest.

Police officers J.N. Wilson and J.D. Crotty used force to handcuff him.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Alex Burton Lagler, 21, of 460 Panther Point Road, Richfield, with injury to personal property, simple assault and interfering with an emergency communication Sunday.

He was placed under $2,500 bond.

He is accused of hitting Dominic Furlano in the face and trying to prevent Sharon Furlano from making a 911 emergency call by pulling telephone wires from the wall.

He also is alleged to have damaged walls, windows, a television, door, door frame and furniture belonging to Dominic Furlano.

In other weekend arrest reports from the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office:

• Andy Eugene Moss, 32, of 1313 Park Ave., was charged Saturday with resisting a public officer, Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputy D.M. Butler.

Butler was trying to serve a warrant on Moss for failure to appear in court on charges of driving with a revoked license and reckless driving. He was found hiding under a table in his basement and placed under $500 bond.

• Kannapolis Police arrested Victoria Lee Houchin and Jackie Gaither Russell, both of 1008 W. A St., Kannapolis, on drug charges.

Houchin is charged with two counts of trafficking opium/heroin and conspiracy to do the same.

Russell was charged with conspiracy to traffic opium/heroin and simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (a dosage of morphine).

Kannapolis Police Officer J.D. Page investigated. The date of the offense was given as last Thursday.

Houchin’s bond was set at $25,000; Russell’s, $15,000.

• Tabitha Williams Cuthrell, 33, of 814 N. Salisbury St., Spencer, was charged with second-degree trespass in a complaint taken out by David Cuthrell of Asheboro.

She allegedly would not leave Cuthrell’s property in Asheboro April 12. She was released on a written promise to appear in court.

• Shanto Dawan Knox, 33, of 205 N. Shaver St., East Spencer, was charged Saturday by East Spencer Police with carrying a concealed gun and simple possession of marijuana.

The gun was a semi-automatic, .40-caliber handgun.

• The Rowan County Sheriff’s office charged Travis James Thompson, 22, of 6700 Plyler Road, Kannapolis, with possession of drug paraphernalia and felony possession of a controlled substance.

He was placed under $1,000 bond Saturday.

• Jennifer Hoekman of 171 Sechler St., China Grove, was charged with misdemeanor larceny in the alleged theft of $375 cash from Brock A. Karriker of Kannapolis. She was released on a written promise. The larceny is said to have occurred April 11.

• Amber Nicole Adkins, 24, of 1292 Stratus Drive, China Grove, was charged with shoplifting groceries and hygiene products Sunday from Food Lion No. 16 in China Grove. She was placed under $1,000 bond.

• Amber Lynn Pierontoni of 1070 Matika Drive was charged with breaking, entering and larceny from a home at 424 W. Innes St.

The item taken was a silver meat dome, valued at $100. Pierontoni was placed under $700 bond.

• Arba Ann Knapp of Salisbury was charged with domestic criminal trespass on premises at 106 N. Main St. in a complaint taken out by Kirk Michael Knapp.

Alexa Suzanne Randall of 725 Crescent Road, Rockwell, is charged with misdemeanor larceny for allegedly taking an iPod Touch from Kaybeel Ola Breone Dillard. The item was valued at $537, and the date of the offense was March 31, according to the Rowan Sheriff’s Office.
