Vandals break into Kiwanis Club building again

Authorities say vandals targeted items at the Kiwanis Club property for the second time this month, causing another $200 worth of damage.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said the vandalism was reported Friday by someone repairing the building. Vandals caused more than $75,000 in damage on April 15, breaking windows, putting a hole in the roof and ransacking the building.

Last week, more windows were broken, three dummy cameras were damaged and six brooms were broken.

The building, located at 2135 Bringle Ferry Road, has been vacant for about six years and is for sale. The building is not accessible by vehicle.

The 9-acre site has been known as Camp Kiwanis. There is a main lodge building with a kitchen and bathroom facilities, a picnic shelter, an amphitheater, a lake, open fields and wooded areas.
