Fire investigators say they have not determined the cause of a house fire at Withrows Creek Lane, but have pinpointed a possible place of origin. The fire occurred Tuesday before 4 p.m. in the Steele area just outside Mount Ulla, off N.C. 801. Fire Marshal Aaron Youngblood said investigators spent a couple of hours at the home Wednesday and it appears the fire started in the sunroom on the back of the house. “We are looking at a couple of different things,” he said.

The investigation continues. The home was destroyed. Owners Ken and Janet Johnson were out of town, but neighbors alerted them to the fire. The house sat so far off N.C. 801 multiple fire departments attached nearly half a mile of hose so firefighters could feed water closer to the home. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with chest pains.
